How to Negotiate a Fantasy Football Trade
The ability to make trades with other members of a league is one of the most appealing things about fantasy football. Though, it's not often done easily.
It's important that when negotiating with a league-mate that you appeal to their interests as well as your own. In a perfect world, every trade, in hindsight, is equally beneficial for both sides. In a greedy world, the world that we live in, trades can be blatantly and sneakily lopsided, but it's important that appealing to some level of fairness is made -- even if the appeal is sugar coated.
If your team is in need of an improvement, find a team who you also see room for improvement in and contact that league-mate. A trade should present advantages for both sides. There's no reason to be disrespectful or brash during negotiations. It's as simple as detailing your desires and communicating your thought process as it relates to the other person.
Maintaining a general knowledge of all other teams in the league could never prove to be a disservice. It's an incredible advantage that can easily lead to the winning of a trade. League-mates who are not well-versed in the nature and landscape of the league often fall behind the times. Keeping up-to-date is an invaluable tool that isn't to be forgotten.
Most trades will fall through. People often try their hand at an overwhelming attitude of greediness and an overpowering desire to win the trade outright. Deviating from that approach drastically raises the likelihood that a trade is processed. Be kind, respectful, and relatively honest.
